Meditation: the Tool to Life Enrichment
- Mind, Body and Soul
Physical
wellness, a balanced life, and inner peace…we'd all like to be able to say that was true of our lives. But
that’s a pretty tall order in today’s hectic world. We often have one or maybe two of those ‘desirables’ checked
off at any one time. But three? As the creator of this website I have to
admit that I'm not yet at the point of having all three as a constant in my life. But I
am working towards it using meditation...
I take your privacy very seriously - your information is NEVER
shared
You’ve probably
found your way to this site because your life is out of balance, you're incredibly stressed and you know you
have to do something soon before you explode! And you also know that you don’t want to resort to chemical
help. But, and I know this from my own research, there’s so much information online about
meditation you could end up being more stressed than you were in the first place!
The hope is that this site will help guide you, calmly, through this maze and that you
find a form, or style, of meditation that's suits you and your lifestyle.
If you picture meditation as a kind of slightly hippy-alternative Eastern religion ‘thing’ don’t worry you’re not
the only one
. Perhaps you visualize a bearded man sitting cross-legged high up on a mountain when the word 'meditation' is
mentioned?

"Since learning to meditate and setting out on my spiritual journey, the ordinary have become
miraculous, the impossible have become the probable, and every intention has become a seed for
fulfillment." |

| Deepak Chopra, M.D. |
Fortunately you don't have to climb a mountain or sit
in strange positions to meditate. Meditation is practiced the world over by
business people, scientists, athletes, parents…at home, work, in their
cars (not while driving!)...or at the beach! The commonality is that all of those people want to find
effective solutions to redress the balance of their lives, to achieve physical wellness and inner
peace.
"To attain knowledge, add things every day.
To attain wisdom, remove things every day." |

| Tao Te Ching, Chapter 48 |
Meditation will calm and clear your mind. With a quiet mind we are more perceptive and our thinking becomes more
expansive. The meditative mind sees beyond the walls of convention. During meditation our minds become quiet
allowing our bodies to gain the deep rest necessary to release stress and fatigue.
However, it's important to know when you need to take a nap; meditation is not sleeping. It’s ok to fall asleep
when you meditate (well at least don’t be mad at yourself if you do) but it’s even better to take a nap and then
meditate later.
During a typical day our bodies store ‘memories’ of both good and bad
feelings and thoughts. By the end of a day these ‘stored’ emotions can leave you feeling tired, stressed and
sometimes ill. The ‘memories’ are chemicals that build up in our bodies; meditation helps to break them down
leaving us feeling happier, lighter and healthier. The act of meditating gives the body a chance to
replenish itself.
Today doctors are increasingly citing stress as a major factor in such illnesses as:
Depression
Anxiety
High blood pressure
Cardiac pain
Obesity
Insomnia
Diabetes
Ulcers
Cold & fever
Asthma
Arthritis
Alcoholism.
Even though meditation should not be considered a cure by itself, medical
research has shown that meditation contributes to reducing stress,
achieving deep relaxation and a profound state of rest. And so by reducing stress we are less likely to
succumb to modern dis-eases. After practicing meditation each day,
even for short periods, the mind and body are more able to function with maximum effectiveness.
However, meditation is not simply a program for stress management
(though the Western view of it often only presents that aspect) it is much, much more. It's a personal journey. It
allows you to re-discover who you really are; it takes you beyond the mind, intellect and ego to let you access
your true self.
We spend most of our lives looking outside ourselves for answers. We
read books, listen to tapes, and attend workshops, hoping an expert will come to our rescue. Meditation allows you
to turn your attention in and re-discover your own self; the expert inside you who has all the answers you could
ever need.
Meditation is not an intellectual process, it is very simple and
should be effortless, (thought this takes quite some practice)…in fact the less you think and intellectualize, the
greater your benefits.
So simply put you will meditate to:
Enrich your life
Access your true self
Achieve deep relaxation
Improve your physical health
Clear your head and raise your awareness
Increase creativity and intelligence
Improve your memory and ability to learn new
facts.
Make you feel more energetic
Promote inner calm and peace.
