My Journey to
Meditation
LearnToMeditate.com started its life about 10
years ago as Robert Culpepper’s Primordial Sound Meditation site. Robert is one
of Deepak Chopra’s Global Certified Instructors.
I'm Lucy Culpepper.
When Robert decided to take
a break from teaching I decided to go on a journey of research through many
meditation websites to produce a site that simply and briefly reviews the main forms of meditation.
Many multi-purpose meditation sites are, I think, over-complicated and lose the reader before they have delivered
their main message. This is an attempt to keep things simple and to help you reach a calmer place than you
were at before.
Robert taught me Primordial Sound Meditation 10 years ago - I don't
practice PSM regularly; I prefer to watch my breath and practice yoga. But when I am
struggling to calm my mind and switch off from the babble inside my head, I do return to my own personal Primordial
Sound Mantra.
That moment when I 'received' my mantra from the Chopra Center was very special. I
have it written on a piece of paper that's kept in a special metal pot that I bought on a trip
to Gangotri in the Indian Himalayas. Gangotri is a shrine dedicated to the Goddess Ganga and is the place
where the Ganges river originates; it is where Ganaga touched Earth for the first time and is a very special
place.
Somedays, I don't watch my breath; instead I listen to meditative music or follow a guided
meditation. I think it's fine to use different kinds of meditation, after all each day has a new
dawn and each day we have different needs. Not all meditators would agree with me
though.
Meditation helps me in every aspect of my life... as a writer, a wife, a mother, a daughter and a
friend.
And just so that we are all clear: Apart from the affiliate links,
which I receive a small payment from (but only if you click on them and purchase from that site), I have no
business interest whatsoever in the products, services and centers that I recommend. I'm just an interested
person, like you, who has researched and visited many sites to present information that I think will interest
you too.
LearnToMeditate.com reviews the more 'mainstream' meditation
styles listed for you here:
Please click on a link to read about each one.
The explanations are not too long or complicated so you shouldn't
get lost or put off. Try the Simple
Meditation Practice, listen to the free music...but don't get overwhelmed. Bookmark this site and come
back another day when you 've had time to process all the information.
When you are starting out the best thing I have found is to approach meditation one bite at a
time; prepare your special space (however small - this a little like starting to run; the hardest part is actually
getting your shoes on and opening the front door - not the running!), choose your style, find a time and then when
no more barriers are left to break, start just five minutes at a time.
