Taoist
Meditation
A
Taoist’s chief tool in the quest for inner peace is meditation. The major characteristic of this type of
meditation is the generation, transformation, and circulation of internal energy - known as Chi or ‘qi’. As soon
as this steady flow of energy is achieved, it can be used to promote good health and longevity.
Stephen Russell, aka The Barefoot Doctor and the UK’s most famous Taoist teacher, says your chi is what fuels you
and enables you to make the very most of every moment and opportunity. Taoism is all about chi.
The Barefoot Doctor has studied
the mysteries of Taoism for 44 years (that’s right, since he was a child!) and it has taken him decades to be able
to teach these mysteries clearly enough to pass them on in a simple, clear way.
He has created a new series of
free Chi exercises to help access, develop, harness, and focus your Chi and get you
started on a fabulous journey into the hallowed realms of Taoist magic.
Taoist
meditation as with Zazen and
yoga meditation focuses on
breathing, and the natural flow of breath in the nostrils in addition to the expansion and contraction of the
abdomen. Taoist meditation differs in that much of it is performed while moving.

Examples
of moving meditation
are Chi
Gung (Chi Kung, Qi Gong, and Qigong) and T'ai Chi.
Slow
graceful movements and controlled breathing techniques are performed to promote the circulation of ‘qi’ within
the human body, and enhance a practitioner's overall health.
Chi Gung
and Tai Chi are often confused with martial arts; that’s probably because many martial arts experts also
practice Taoist mediation.
